This is show was created 5 years ago by Richard Montoya of Culture Clash for Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s American Revolutions series. It played Cal Shakes 4 years ago. The pace is fast paced historical satire played by a large ensemble with multiple roles. Various scenes have been “ test run” in our two Contemporary Performance workshops ( summer 2018 , fall 2019) and it is a favorite with students and audiences.
CAST SIZE 20 plus ( originally 9 doubling up). I am reaching out to the swing club and music department for creative participation. ALL DESIGN ELEMENTS are cartoon like and humorous. Possibility of some live music.

CCSF Theatre Department is pleased to announce the first ever theatrical staging of Tim Robbin's 1999 film " Cradle Will Rock.
This star studded Hollywood film is based on the true events of depression era USA and echoing the headlines of current day events. It is an epic story of love, politics and survival in cruel times.
It is 1936, the enfant terrible Orson Wilson is staging a progressive musical (Marc Blitzstein’s musical of the same name). Meanwhile Roosevelt’s New Deal and public art fights for its very existence and the show, the very act of making theatre is at risk. As reds are bated at home, violence spills onto the street and fascism grows abroad. Fat cat Nelson Rockefeller hires monumental artist Diego Rivera to paint "Man at the Crossroads", Vaudevillians cling to old routines, a rich Countess goes " slumming" and starving theatre artists get their voices heard over the din of poverty and strikes.
Hilarious and poignant, CCSF is thrilled to stage this story under the shadow of Diego Rivera's mural in an interactive drama with music.

(ANON)YMOUS is a modern adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey.
SEE AUDITION DETAILS BELOW!
This is a poetic, fiercely contemporary drama about identity, loss and search for home and the struggle to survive in contemporary America.
The playwright Naomi Iizuka has adapted the classical Greek myth of the Odyssey to the circumstance of two refugees escaping civil war, washing ashore as undocumented refugees in the landscapes and cities of the USA. The play touches on current issues such as immigration, race, exploitation and power and yet the story remains true to very human experiences such as love, loss, first kisses, staying alive and dancing till you drop!

ABOUT THE PLAY
- Described by Brecht as 'a gangster play that would recall certain events familiar to us all', The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is a witty and savage satire of the rise of Hitler – recast by Brecht into a small-time Chicago gangster's takeover of the city's greengrocery trade. Using a wide range of parody and pastiche – from Al Capone to Shakespeare's Richard III and Goethe's Faust – Brecht's compelling parable continues to have relevance wherever totalitarianism appears today.
- Written during the Second World War in 1941, the play was one of the Berliner Ensemble's most outstanding box-office successes in 1959, and has continued to attract a succession of major actors, including Leonard Rossiter, Christopher Plummer, Antony Sher and Al Pacino.
- This version, originally translated by George Tabori, has been revised by leading Scottish playwright Alistair Beaton
